About

Welcome to my blog! My name is Glenn Wiley. I started off as a computer science major in college, didn’t like mainframe programming, and eventually made a move to business administration. After spending 5 years as a claims adjuster in the insurance industry, I decided to pursue the passion I still had for computers and entered the world of software development. I enrolled in night school in 1998 and quickly found my first IT job during the dot-com boom. After suffering through the development pains of classic ASP and writing Visual Basic 5/6 applications, I started playing with .Net beta 2 late in 2001 and have been hooked ever since. I enjoy coding and figuring out how to make things work – especially when it makes the end users’ life easier. Although I don’t get to practice it often enough, I believe in the benefits of agile development methodologies and test-driven development. I try to keep an open mind to learn about the various tools and methodologies that are available to make my development work more productive and provide the customer with the most value. I currently work for an online brokerage firm located in St. Louis, Missouri.

I enjoy working with new tools and as part of the learning process, will blog about my experiences. When I come across issues that make me scratch my head, I’ll share the answers. If you have experiences to share, please comment! I invite criticism, thoughts, and different opinions, but I will not tolerate personal attacks towards myself or others who may comment on this blog. Thus, I will remove any posts that I find offensive and vulgar.
